Matthew 28:19-20 tells us; “Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”




What Is Discipleship?

In the Bible, discipleship is a lifelong journey of spiritual growth that involves following Jesus as your Lord and Savior, learning from Jesus through the scriptures, striving to live like Jesus, witnessing to others, praying with others, studying the Bible with others, fellowship with others, and helping others follow Jesus.


Why is discipleship important?


Discipleship is important for many reasons such as:

  • Growing in faith: discipleship helps believers grow in their faith, maturity, and wisdom.
  • Following Jesus’ command: Jesus commanded his follows to make disciples of all nations, and discipleship is a way to fulfill that command.
  • Growing the church: training disciples is an effective way for churches to grow.
  • Extending the churches influence: discipleship extends the church locally and globally
  • Living by the Spirit of God: involves walking alongside other disciples and learning to live a Spirit filled life.
  • Being intentional: discipleship requires being intentional about disciple making.
  • Being present: discipleship requires being present in the lives of others to teach, train, and fight alongside them.
